South Asian Bar Association NorCal Public Interest Fellowship

The SABA Foundation, the charitable arm of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California (SABA-NC), is pleased to announce that it will award its fourth annual public interest fellowship(s) to recognize individuals for dedication to the public good.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in law school at least part-time (as defined by their own schools);
  • Be legal residents of Northern California;
  • Attend law school in Northern California;
  • Demonstrate interest in and commitment to working on behalf of the South Asian community.

The fellowship recipient must have a demonstrated interest in working on behalf of the community or public interest by virtue of his/her professional and/or community involvement. The recipient also should have a demonstrated interest in promoting awareness of particular causes or issues which affect the South Asian community or the Northern California community generally, whether they be, among others, inequities in the legal system, social or economic justice, cultural promotion, or educational ideals. The fellowship shall be awarded based on the following selection criteria: Academic merit; Participation in co-curricular activities; Participation in extra-curricular activities, i.e., non-law related activities; Professional training, i.e., internships, externships, summer clerkships; and financial need (if relevant).

SABA-NC Foundation is currently accepting applications and applications are due by 5:00pm PST April 1, 2008.
